Celebrating Ireland’s Favourite Pairing with Ór-Real Irish Butter and McCambridge Brown Bread

There are few combinations more comforting, more rooted in memory, or more Irish, than brown bread and butter.

From the comfort of a school lunch box to the simplicity of a Sunday breakfast, the pairing of golden butter with slices of brown bread is a staple that has stood the test of time. It’s a combination that needs no embellishment – wholesome, honest, and nourishing.

This October, two beloved Irish brands – Ór-Real Irish Butter and McCambridge Brown Bread – are coming together once again to celebrate the beauty of this simple staple. As proud members of Love Irish Food, both brands are deeply committed to Irish provenance, tradition, and supporting Irish jobs. Their joint tasting campaign in Tesco on the 10th and 11th of October will remind shoppers that sometimes, the best things in life really are the simplest.

Double Gold at the 2025 Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards

We’re thrilled to announce that Ór-Real Irish Butter has once again been recognised at the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards 2025 — taking home two Gold medals and continuing a proud tradition of excellence.

🥇 Ór-Real Irish Butter
🥇 Ór-Real Irish Unsalted Butter (New!)

This year’s win is particularly special as it includes our new Unsalted Butter in 227g pack,, developed in response to customer demand and crafted with bakers in mind. Ideal for cakes, pastries, and other sweet bakes where precision and purity of flavour are key, this newest addition to the Ór range has already won gold — and a place in Irish kitchens across the country.

These awards are judged by some of Ireland’s top food professionals and celebrate the very best of Irish food and drink. We’re honoured that Ór has once again stood out, continuing our streak of wins at these highly respected awards over the past number of years.

At the heart of Ór is a simple promise: real Irish butter, made from milk from certified Irish grass-fed cows, supplied by local farmers whose families have worked with us for generations. This dedication to tradition, quality, and provenance is what gives Ór its rich, golden taste — and what makes it a favourite with Irish families, chefs, and bakers alike.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Ór-Real Irish Butter. We’re incredibly proud of this recognition — and even prouder to be part of your everyday moments in the kitchen.

Here’s to real Ór-Real Irish Butter. And here’s to gold.

The Bread is Bursting with Flavour: Geraldine’s Story

The Bread is Bursting with Flavour: Geraldine’s Story

Celebrating the everyday magic of baking with Ór-Real Irish Butter

At Ór-Real Irish Butter, we’re incredibly proud to be part of so many kitchens, stories, and traditions across Ireland. One story recently shared with us truly captured the heart of what we stand for – real butter, real people, and real flavour.

Geraldine Gilhooley, a passionate home baker from County Leitrim, got in touch to tell us how Ór-Real Irish Butter has become part of her family’s baking and her journey with the Irish Countrywomen’s Association (ICA) – the largest women’s organisation in Ireland.

Her connection to Ór-Real Irish Butter began on a family visit to her son John, his wife Nora, and their little boy Seán in the beautiful surroundings of the Gap of Dunloe in Co. Kerry. There, she discovered that they supported local producers – and had Ór-Real Irish Butter on the table.

“I thought it had a delicious natural flavour,” she told us. “When I returned home, I found several local shops that stocked it – and I’ve been using it since.”

Back in Leitrim, just near the Longford border, Gearldine’s love of baking took centre stage once again. A proud member of the Lanesboro Guild of the ICA, she has long entered the ICA’s annual brown bread baking competition – a much-loved tradition that celebrates simplicity, skill, and flavour.

This year, she used Ór-Real Irish Butter in her entry and added just a touch of treacle to her classic brown bread recipe. To her delight, she won at county level and will now go on to represent Longford at the next round in An Grianán ICA College in July.

The Federation-level judge praised her bread with a line that stayed with us:
“The bread is bursting with flavour.”

Geraldine believes that the rich, natural taste of Ór-Real Irish Butter made a real difference.

For us at Ór, this is what it's all about — becoming part of your recipes, your tables, and your proudest moments. We’re honoured to be part of Geardline’s journey and can’t wait to hear how the next stage of the competition goes.

Best of luck, Geraldine – we’ll be cheering you on.

Low Food Miles, High Standards – The Real Taste of Ireland

Low Food Miles, High Standards – The Real Taste of Ireland

There’s something deeply reassuring about food that comes from close to home – ingredients grown, churned, and baked by people who know their land and live where the product is made.

This November, we’re shining a spotlight on two Irish favourites – Ór‑Real Irish Butter and McCambridge Brown Bread – whose provenance story is rooted in local sourcing, traditional methods, and a commitment to quality you can trust.

Locally Sourced, Authentically Irish

At McCambridge Brown Bread, the story begins with heritage. Baked in Rathcoole, Co. Dublin, this family-run Irish business is now celebrating over 80 years in operation and uses a time-honoured recipe dating back to 1945.

Each loaf is made with 100% Irish flour and fresh Irish buttermilk – keeping food miles low and flavour high. There are no added sugars, preservatives, or artificial ingredients – just simple, honest brown bread crafted from real Irish ingredients.

For Ór‑Real Irish Butter, provenance begins with the land. Made in North Cork Creameries, a farmer-owned cooperative established in 1928, this premium butter is produced using milk from certified Irish grass-fed cows. The cream used in Ór Butter travels only a short distance from farm to churn – keeping it fresh, traceable, and sustainable.
